Courtney Blair Youth Scholarship

Social Butterflies Foundation was founded by lupus survivor, Chastity Corbett.  It is a grassroots organization dedicated to helping those battling with lupus and fibromyalgia, as well as their families and caregivers. Our mission is to provide education, support services, and encouragement to empower and uplift those living with lupus and fibromyalgia in effort to help them and their families face the challenges of these debilitating illnesses. Our vision is to make these invisible illnesses visible. Social Butterflies Foundation aims to provide youth battling with lupus and/or fibromyalgia, as well as children of survivors, with college scholarship opportunities to help fulfill their aspirations. The Courtney Blair Youth Scholarship is for graduating seniors who reside in and attend school in the Staunton, Waynesboro, Harrisonburg and Charlottesville region. Applicants must attend an accredited college, university or post-secondary institution in pursuit of a degree within one year of graduation. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for a scholarship award.

Social Butterflies Foundation established the Courtney Blair Youth Scholarship in memory of Courtney Blair, who lost her battle to lupus on November 12, 2014 at the age of 28. During her high school career, she attended both Waynesboro High School and Robert E. Lee High School (Staunton High School).

Courtney was a warrior! She was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 17. She was determined that lupus wasn’t going to be her handicap. After her diagnose, she became a nail technician and worked for several local salons. Also, she became the mother of a beautiful daughter, Z’nye. She enjoyed life alongside her family and friends, and desired for any lupus patient to enjoy life to the fullest.

This scholarship is to encourage lupus / fibromyalgia patients or students of patients who have these auto immune diseases to strive for their dreams and to always remember that you may have a disease, but the disease doesn’t have you!
