Butterfly Walk Recap
On June 10, 2023, survivors, families, supporters, sponsors, and dignitaries all joined to raise awareness for lupus and fibromyalgia. Everyone enjoyed the informational resources, vendors, children’s entertainment provided by Wanda Thompson also known as Bubbles the Clown, and music provided by DJ Erock. We had special guests attend to show their support which included Congressman Robert “Bobby” Scott, Delegate Jackie Glass, Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones, Newport News Police Chief Drew, Former Newport News Mayor McKinley Price, School Board Member Dr. Terri Best, Actress and Comedienne Farrah “Cocoa” Brown, Talk Show Host and Comedian Quincy Carr, and of course this year’s Grand Marshal Delegate Marcia Price! We even had special appearances such as Tidewater Tides’ mascot Triton, Mario, Sonic, and Maribel! Dr. Kristi Mizelle of TPMG Rheumatology was recognized as our Medical Honoree. We rewarded a $2,000 college scholarship to Aaliyah Robinson who will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University this Fall. Everyone had a great time. It was truly a family reunion!!
We are close to our $25,000 fundraising goal. We are just under $7,000 away from achieving it. We need your help. There is still time to register to walk virtually (anytime and anywhere you choose) and time to donate. Encourage your family and friends to support today!
