Programs
Social Butterflies Foundation programs support lupus and fibromyalgia survivors, families, and caregivers through community, emergency assistance, outreach, scholarships, wellness, and education.
Social Butterflies Foundation Lupus & Fibro Support Group
The Social Butterflies Foundation Lupus & Fibro Support Group provides a safe, compassionate space for youth and adults, along with their families and caregivers, to connect, share, and support one another.
Through meaningful conversations and guest speakers, we address topics that help individuals live healthier, more empowered lives despite the challenges of lupus and fibromyalgia. Our approach is holistic—focusing on the mind, body, and spirit—while always centering the needs of survivors and their families.
This is more than a support group—we are a family. And in this family, we fight together.
Financial Relief
Emergency Financial Assistance
Living with a chronic illness impacts more than just physical health—it can create significant financial strain. Many survivors face reduced work capacity, missed income, or disability. Social Butterflies Foundation created the Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Program to help bridge this gap and provide relief when it’s needed most.
The EFA Program provides limited financial assistance to individuals (18 and older) diagnosed with lupus and/or fibromyalgia. Grants are awarded to help cover medical bills and prescription costs directly related to these conditions.
A completed medical release form is required to verify diagnosis, along with proof of identity. All approved grants are paid directly to the agency or healthcare provider.
This program is currently available to Virginia residents only.
Important Guidelines & Criteria
- Assistance must be directly related to the treatment of lupus and/or fibromyalgia, or a related medical emergency. Requests for rent, mortgage, car payments, cell phone bills, cable, or internet are not eligible. Utility assistance (electricity, water, gas) may be considered if loss of service would worsen the individual’s medical condition.
- Applicants must clearly demonstrate financial need and show how the grant will fully or partially address that need.
- Requests must be exhaustive. Applicants must first seek assistance from all other available sources (including insurance, government programs, or other organizations).
- Grants are limited to one per person within a 12-month period.
- Award amounts are based on the verified balance owed and will not exceed $250. If the balance exceeds $250, the remaining amount must be paid prior to disbursement.
Chastity Corbett Youth Scholarship
The Chastity Corbett Youth Scholarship—offered by the Social Butterflies Foundation—is a beacon of hope for graduating seniors in Virginia living with lupus or fibromyalgia, or those with a biological parent or grandparent diagnosed with either condition, who plan to pursue higher education. Applicants must be accepted to an accredited institution, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need based on household income and family size.
Named in honor of our founder, Chastity Corbett—affectionately known as The Lupus Conqueror—this scholarship celebrates resilience and the power of determination. Despite her own battles with lupus, Chastity has dedicated her life to advocacy, support, and uplifting others. Inspired by her mantra, “Butterflies don’t let each other fly alone,” this award reminds students that lupus and fibromyalgia are words—not sentences—and that their dreams are still within reach.
We encourage survivors or children of survivors to rise above limitations, chase their aspirations, and believe in their ability to spread their wings and soar. With courage, hard work, and community support, there is no goal beyond your grasp.
Wig & Wellness Outreach Program
Many lupus and fibromyalgia survivors experience hair loss due to their condition or the medications used for treatment. This can be both devastating and deeply personal, impacting confidence and emotional well-being.
The Social Butterflies Foundation Wig & Wellness Outreach Program is designed to restore confidence and remind survivors that they are beautiful—inside and out—and never alone.
This program goes beyond providing wigs. Through workshops and guest speakers, we also focus on overall wellness, offering guidance on hair care, skincare, and beauty to support both inner and outer healing.
Community Care
CARE Outreach Program
The CARE Outreach Program is our way of showing survivors that they are seen, supported, and never alone.
Whether a thriver is experiencing bereavement, hospitalization, surgery, welcoming a new baby, celebrating a promotion, birthday, or retirement, Social Butterflies Foundation stands with them—acknowledging both life’s challenges and its meaningful moments.
Through this program, we also give back to the community by distributing blessing bags with essential items, backpacks filled with school supplies, and adopting families in Virginia during the holiday season to ensure they experience joy and support.
At its core, the CARE Outreach Program is about being a blessing to others and uplifting the lupus and fibromyalgia community.
Lupus & Fibromyalgia Summit & Health Fair
The Social Butterflies Foundation Lupus & Fibromyalgia Summit & Health Fair brings together survivors, families, caregivers, and medical professionals for a powerful day of education, resources, and community support.
Attendees gain valuable insight into managing lupus and fibromyalgia, including holistic approaches to care, while connecting with experts and organizations that provide essential services.
The health fair offers access to free screenings, insurance and disability resources, mental health support, and information on treatment options and healthy living.
This transformative event equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to navigate their journey with confidence, hope, and support.
