Lupus Awareness License Plate Campaign Reaches the Virginia General Assembly!
We are thrilled to announce that the Social Butterflies Foundation’s DMV campaign for a Lupus Awareness License Plate has officially made its way to the Virginia General Assembly! Delegate Marcia Price has submitted HB1722 Special License Plate – Lupus Awareness, bringing us closer to achieving this long-awaited milestone.

We are excited to share a groundbreaking achievement in our fight to make lupus visible! House Bill 1722 – Special License Plate: Lupus Awareness has passed both the House and Virginia Senate unanimously! 
Now, the final step is for Governor Glenn Youngkin to sign the bill into law. But we need YOU to help make this historic initiative a reality!
How You Can Help
Submit Your FREE Non-Personalized Plate Application – No cost to pre-order! Need a Personalized Plate or Plate Transfer? – Submit a $10 payment to cover the difference. You can do this by visiting www.socialbutterfliesfoundation.org, clicking Donate, and selecting the DMV Lupus Plate option for it to be applied towards your plate.
This is a time-sensitive effort, so we must act quickly to submit all applications and payments to the DMV. Once Governor Youngkin signs the bill, the DMV will begin producing and distributing the plates to everyone who pre-ordered.
Why This Matters
The lupus awareness plate is more than just a license plate; it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and support for individuals living with lupus. Once approved, the Virginia DMV will donate $15 from every lupus awareness plate sold to provide direct assistance to lupus survivors and their families.
A Journey of Advocacy
This campaign began in 2001, and thanks to your dedication and support, we are so close to making history as the first organization and state to have a lupus awareness plate. We are deeply grateful to Delegate Marcia Price for her advocacy and to Hampton native and actor Oshea Russell, along with his castmate Michael Bolwaire from BET’s All the Queen’s Men, for their unwavering support of this cause.
While this bill focuses on lupus, we continue to work toward a fibromyalgia awareness plate. We encourage fibromyalgia thrivers and their families to pre-order their plates to help us meet the required 450 pre-orders for submission.

Lupus and Fibromyalgia Awareness Plates
In order to help further raise awareness for these two cruel illnesses, Social Butterflies Foundation has launched our DMV License Plate initiative. Currently, there is not a specialty plate for lupus nor fibromyalgia in Virginia. Having a plate will help bring these debilitating illnesses to the forefront by raising awareness and making them visible. It will also show survivors that they are not alone in this fight. We need 450 pre-purchased plates for both the lupus and fibromyalgia specialty plates. We need your help to make the specialty plates possible by you pre-purchasing your plate. You must be a Virginia resident. Together we WILL make these invisible illnesses VISIBLE!
The specialty plates cost $25 for non-personalized plates and $35 for personalized plates.

In order to pre-order your lupus or fibromyalgia awareness plate you must submit your payment and application to Social Butterflies Foundation. Click the payment link below to submit your online payment and click on the appropriate application to download. Please make sure that you fully complete the application ensuring that you complete question number four about your insurance. Email your completed application to admin@socialbutterfliesfoundation.org if you are choosing to pre-order your plate using the online payment option. Your electronic signature is acceptable. A confirmation email will be sent to you.
